Term 3 Week 9 – Writing Number 18Term 3 Week 9 – Writing Number 18

Number 18 was the next number in line for the 9th week of schooling during this term.

The children are now capable of seeing the pattern in the number line themselves.  They enthusiastically come to the board and reason out what comes after what.  They are very proud that they managed to learn to count, work and experiment with these numbers so far.  They also got used to the numicon shapes and know which ones to choose.

The children played a game on the interactive whiteboard where they had to choose number 18 from other numbers.  They also watched the following video clip:

Sesame Street – Number of the Day 18 Song – Let’s stomp 18 time

As part of their hands on activities the children had to use the rainbow technique to form 18 on their number scrapbook.  They also had to stamp 18 musical notes on the page shown below.

The children also practiced writing number 18 on their People Who Help WB 2.  They drew 18 balls and coloured in the numicon shapes.  As is routine they counted various objects such as beans, blocks, craft sticks and buttons.

Last but not least they had to circle the smaller number out of a choice of two.  They had a number line to guide them besides the class explanation.  These are the pages.
